Handmade home décor may be an excellent addition to any house. While it adds uniqueness and individuality to your house, giving it that ‘you’ aspect, it also provides numerous unappreciated advantages.

For starters, it’s incredibly beneficial to the wallet. DIY home décor projects, when feasible, may transform your house or area without breaking the budget. There are several handcrafted home décor projects (described in the rest of this article) that you may complete without needing to spend for an interior design overhaul.

Making or creating your own home décor items can also be extremely therapeutic, which is a lesser-known benefit. Arts and crafts, as well as the act of creating something new from something old, or even from nothing at all, can be highly fulfilling and peaceful to the mind. It improves concentration and leaves you feeling far more delighted than simply purchasing something from a store.

Finally, do-it-yourself Handmade Home Décor is beneficial to the environment. Reusing or recycling old products at home to create new and improved design accents for your home is an excellent way to practice sustainability and reduce your carbon footprint, albeit in a small way.

Overall, handcrafted home décor is a terrific approach to attain that perfect ‘homey’ vibe. Here are a few DIY Handmade Home Décor ideas to help you spruce up your living space.

Candle Holders Made at Home

Candles instantly add ambiance to any place; if they’re scented, it’s a double win. Why not make artsy and unique candleholders at home instead of going out and buying a set of six identical candle holders and spending (arguably unnecessary) money?

All you’ll need are a few glass jars, lace and/or paint, glue or some kind of adhesive, a pair of scissors, and your imagination to pull this off.

Clean and Dry your Jar Thoroughly

Cut a strip of lace or cut the lace into desired shapes.

Stick the lace strip around the lower half of the jar if using it; if using lace cutouts, stick the pieces to achieve the desired look.

If you want to use paint instead of lace, let your imagination run wild while the jar dries. Glass paints work best because they allow light to shine through, adding an aesthetic touch.

Light your candle and place it in the jar.

Planters Made by Hand

Indoor plants are well-known for their ability to spruce up the interiors of your home. Instead of spending money on planters and pots as your plants grow, you can now make your own DIY planers at home out of old jars and plastic bottles. Not to mention that recycling and reusing materials is the ultimate eco-friendly experience, right?

You’ll need old glass jars or bottles, thick jute string, glue, and scissors. Follow these steps to make your planters:

Clean and dry the glass jars/bottles thoroughly. It is always a good idea to disinfect them so that your plants can grow in the cleanest environment possible.

Use the thick jute string to tie a knot at the rim of the jar/on the bottleneck if you’re planting creeper plants in these planters. Glue the thread to the glass surface for further security.

Fill the new pots with dirt and hang/place them about your home.

To add even more character to your new DIY planters, grab some glass paints and get to work on jazzing up your glass jars/planters by painting the outsides.

Shelves that Float

Floating shelves are one of the most practical DIY home décor projects you can do. They not only add extra storage space to your home, but they also add a chic design element.

For a floating shelf, you’ll need enough wood for the design you want (this can be leftover wooden planks or store-bought wood planks/bits cut to your specifications), a drill, nails, wood chips, and a little extra strength.

  • Arrange the wooden planks to create the desired shape, which could be hexagons, triangles, or just one plank per shelf.
  • Mark the locations on your wall where you want the shelves to go.
  • Drill holes at the indicated locations.
  • Fill the holes with wooden chips.
  • Assemble your shelves by nailing the planks into the designated areas.

Again, for added security, make sure to properly secure the planks (if making shaped shelves).

Galleries Aplenty

A college or mini gallery of posters or photographs is an excellent DIY home décor idea. They’re not only simple to put together, but they’re also a lot of fun.

You will only need pictures, posters, or prints of your choice for this. Simply have them framed once you’ve decided on them. Pro tip: Using different colored or sized frames can add a unique twist to your home gallery moment.

Once the images have been framed, simply hang them on a single wall to create a visual collage.

Painting a Wall

Much of the appeal of handmade home décor stems from the enjoyment one gets from getting down to business and creating something new. That is exactly what wall painting does.

You’ll need paints of your choice, brushes, and painter’s tape for a DIY wall painting project. Here’s what you should do:

Mark the wall you want to paint with painter’s tape. Whether the wall is shaped or simply two colors, make sure the tape is properly applied to avoid paint bleeding.
